The newly-released memoirs of veteran sports broadcaster Steve Rider has become one the first titles offered as an eBook by iconic UK independent publisher, Haynes.
The 50-year-old British publisher, much loved for its car manuals and now offering a wide list of non-fiction, enthusiasts’ titles, has become one of the first publishers in the UK to make eBooks available independently, offering an extensive range of titles at a new standalone website which is accessible via its UK homepage.
The first titles include My Chequered Career (released on 4 October), which chronicles Steve Rider’s 35 years as a motorsports broadcaster. In his book, Rider shares some more-than-forthright views on the current TV deal shared by BBC and Sky as well as describing his own departure from the BBC.
Grand Prix aficionados will be able to download Ayrton Senna: The Whole Story, a fast-moving and comprehensive account of the life, and untimely death, of Brazil’s legendary three-time Formula One World Champion.
Other eBook titles from Haynes’ popular current list include Bernie Ecclestone’s biography, Bernie; Yesterday We Were in America, a vivid account of Alcock and Brown’s first successful, non-stop trans-Atlantic flight in 1919; and Blue Sky Warriors, a colourful and deeply personal account of RAF personnel serving in Afghanistan.
The titles will be available to download to all web-enabled iPads, Sony e-readers, Galaxy and other Android devices.
Jeremy Yates-Round, managing director of Haynes Publishing, said: “We are tremendously excited to be making some of our most popular titles available as eBooks and we are particularly proud to be doing so independently.
“Many of our car and motorbike manuals are already available online, and thanks to the strength of the Haynes brand and our loyal customers, we are pioneering the way to deliver even more digital content via our own platform. This means customers can enjoy our wide-ranging titles on their desktops, laptops, tablets and mobile phones.
“Readers have enjoyed Haynes books for half a century, and we hope our rich heritage will be strengthened further by offering our best-loved titles on screen as well as in print.”
Haynes has sold more than 150 million printed manuals worldwide. These include its much-loved step-by-step car and motorbike manuals, which can already be downloaded at www.haynes.co.uk.
